And just word -- here's hoping that all the tests and checkups that Sammy & TB are getting will turn out great...get well soon! We miss you guys!

Demetri McCamey is BIG TEN Player of the Week!!
Congrats to DMac -- he's right there with Jared Sullinger as top candidate for Big Ten Player of the Year, but PG does so much more than just scoring!
Illinois beat Wisconsin 69-61.

News leaking out that NCAA will rule shortly on appeal from Kentucky's Enes Kanter..
Expect the NCAA to buckle and allow the professional back for the SEC conference season..

ISU's AD Sheahon Zenger is hired away and goes to Kansas..

Then you gotta read this...
Kansas State guard Jacob Pullen is portraying himself as the victim and feels he's done nothing wrong.
Fact is he did break rules of amateurism..but nothing about his situation compares at all with Michael Vick!!
But it is a funny read..

And even more stupidity from the media in reporting a story on science...

This time, there's a story on a possible new test that might be helpful in finding the presence of cancer cells in the blood.
Here's a fairly responsible story on the subject...
http://www.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/01/03/cancer.test/

Here are just a few simple facts that would help relate to this test...

-most people who have cancer cells in the blood, have an already late stage of the cancer since cells in the blood signal fairly wide spread through the bloodstream, so this test might not be all that helpful in diagnosing cancer -- as most people in the late stages already know they have cancer.

-even if the test helps detect the cells in the blood, most late stage cancers with cells spreading through the blood, are virtually incurable, and sometimes only a "palliative effort" to treat is available (treatment to slow the ultimate demise).

-lastly, any idea that this test might help find a cure for cancers...is a little illogical based only on the report of this test...since this would only be a diagnostic tool....once cancer is discovered, we'd still be going with all the same cancer treatments we already had, as this test has nothing to do with discovering any new forms of treatment..

And yet..look what one of the very first headlines I saw was...
"Cure for cancer? Researchers to announce new blood test.."
http://www.nydailynews.com/lifestyle/health/2011/01/03/2011-01-03_cure_for_cancer_researchers_to_announce_new_blood_test_that_can_detect_single_ca.html

Wow -- what a huge leap by the writer of this column & headline!! Just the same wild, illogical, and uninformed stuff we saw recently with the Arsenic-germ!!
Please -- can we get things straight?? Just report what is true, don't make things up!!

Lastly -- since all cancers start small and tend to spread with cells through the bloodstream only in the very late stages, then this test may have NO BENEFIT at all in helping to diagnose any cancers early and it may not affect survival rates and cure rates at all!
Of course it's a useful test if it helps discover the spread, but again -- most patients with forms of widespread cancer, cancer that's spreading already through the bloodstream, have terrible prognoses and virtually non-existent cure rates.
So this test might have little benefit on cures at all!!
It actually may just find more people who will require intravenous chemotherapy -- a very unpleasant and expensive form of treatment that is administered only by the cancer specialty doctors...while possibly affecting cures minimally if at all.

in the end the risks, costs, and benefits of any such new test will almost certainly take years to study and determine if it helps at all.
Unfortunately -- the media has already gone hog wild mistakenly proclaiming this to somehow be a new cure for cancer!!
