Non-BU related - read at your own peril

Disclaimer - I am a Bradley fans and that's where my bias lies, but I think independently and some new proposed law might make me reveal whether I receive remuneration from BU.
I do not, and I even pay more than most people for the one objective thing I do receive, my tickets...although I do receive an infinite amount of personal satisfaction and abundant joy in being a Bradley fan.

Anyway - I grew up in Illinois and have lived most of my life here, so for at least 50 years I have heard and tolerated endless taunts, criticisms, boasts, and arrogance from Indiana fans and Hoosier worshippers. I lived in Kentucky for five years, but it is just as bad there right across the border from Clarksville...
Now I am sure NOT ALL Indiana fans are so anti-social and uncivil....but this rant is aimed at the ones who are.
Anyway, payback is a real bitch, and after decades of having to hear those certain Hooiser fans try to demean all things Illinois, and act like they are the actual true altar of college basketball, now is the time to show how things always seem to go full circle, and just maybe the next time around, those Hoosier fans might learn their lesson and temper their monumental arrogance and condescention when dealing with fans of other teams. Over the decades they have become the epitome of bad fans and hurt their team's image.

WARNING - if you drool at the mention of the word "Hoosier" and hate anthing in Illinois that has to do with basketball, or if you worship at the posterior of thug-wannabe Bobby Knight, then you might just want to skip this next few paragraphs....because IU basketball has indeed fallen about as far as anyone could ever imagine. And it has not only fallen to the netherlands of juco-quality hoopsmanship, it has dug even deeper to find even NEW bottom dweller depths to boast from....and those are facts....and here are even more facts like 'em or not...

The Big Ten Network showcased two games last night, and I am not sure it turned out the way it was planned...

Iowa went to Northwestern and played more like a high school team in losing...they hit 3-21 shots from the arc...and looked horrid.
Meanwhile Iowa forgot that Northwestern runs an offense that mainly tries to get someone open in the lane for a short shot, and repeatedly allowed many, many open short shots....

BUT -- the 2nd game on the Big Ten Network was a landmark game -- a Waterloo in the history of a once decent program......
Wisconsin at Indiana...and maybe someone thought this game would be a game, but it wasn't...
The Hoosiers set a new record...
they lost 78-46, the largest loss ever for Indiana in Assembly Hall.

ALTHOUGH IT WAS INCREDIBLY ENTERTAINING!! (not for a Hoosier fan)
Wisconsin blew out to an early lead, had a 10-20 point lead most of the 1st half, then a 20-30 point lead the whole 2nd half...

Indiana is soooo bad......I mean painfully bad and it turns your stomach to wath them be so bad...
they look like a bunch of guys on a playground trying to create a Michael Jordan-type or LeBron James type falling-away jumper...I am sure any high school junior varsity could give 'em a good run....
Not one player hit a single 3-pointer, but then they never really looked for a decent shot..
But the REAL ENTERTAINMENT STARTED in the 2nd half when referee Tom O'Neill, who did the Bradley game Wednesday, started to get pretty tired of hearing Indiana coach Tom Crean bitch and moan and stomp the sidelines and curse....
Come on Crean, your team is horrible and you were behind by 30 on your home court, because they aren't in the same league as Wisconsin...it has NOTHING to do with the refereeing!!!
Your team shot more FT's and was called for fewer fouls even though they never bother to play defense!!! It wasn't the reffing!!!!

Then after getting slapped with two technicals a couple minutes apart...Crean stomped and cursed all the way across the floor, bobbing his head with each F-word he screamed, and then he walked to the locker room and gave the door a FULL bodyslam that made the spoiled buffoon (whose every paycheck in the past 8 years should be mandatorily shared with Dwyane Wade) look like a childish spoiled brat throwing a temper tantrum...

BTW-- here are some amazing stats from the game...
only three players even had an assist and they totalled only 8 assists on 51 FG attempts...not one starter even made half their shots, and the starting five combined for 9-33...the passes were bad, but what the players did after the passes was even worse...everyone acting like the coach wants to see the re-incarnation of Dwyane Wade...so they all juked and jived and jacked up horrid fall away jumpers!
Sure you have a young team, coach, but if this is an example of how they play under your tutilege for 1-2 years, then Indiana is gonna be badddd way, way into the future...
This Indiana team is getting WORSE the more they are coached by Crean...and the same happened last year!!
You decide......but I think even the IU fans are going to notice this soon..and they are...

As bad as Bobby Knight was for IU basketball at the tail end of his career (not much to show after '87 when he won the NCAA)
he has to be laughing out loud when he sees the depths to which IU has sunk in an effort to stay classy...
(btw the fans were superclassy, too with all the profane chants and obscenities they showed the national TV audience...)

In the end, it is almost as funny-yet-sad, and humiliating as when they found Saddam Hussein hiding in a hole trying to keep from getting caught and being paid back for his arrogance and crimes over the decades...
The worst of the IU fans, too are simply suffering the due punishment for their greed and arrogance in wanting coaches like Knight, Sampson, and Crean....(I like Tom Crean, but he will not do much for this program).
Hoosiers, you have dug your own hole and made your own bed...so stop blaming NCAA and penalties...they didn't give you any - you earned this current status with your greed for thugs, greedy selfish players, academic casualties, and your long standing disrespect for other Big Ten programs...
The only victim here are the other non-IU fans and programs you guys have insulted, bullied, and disrespected for half a century...
payback is a bitch, and it's sad you have to find out the hard way...........

Now the other non-BU topic.......
Did anyone see or even pay attention to the healthcare "summit" yesterday? Pretty boring....more like an 8-hour detention where we were forced to be lectured to by a stern dean of students telling us how wrong and misbehaving we are and how we need to repent and toe the line.

Under the guise of a summit - the President lectured lawmakers for what seemed like and eternity, and disallowed any utterance that opposed him.

And what's with the total lack of decorum?? Since when do the top leaders of this country refer to each other on national TV as "Nancy", Harry", "John", and "Lamar"...?
President, can you not treat your elected co-leaders with at least a modicum of respect? Can you not call them by their full names? What do you dislike about the titles "Congresswoman Pelosi", "Senator Reid", "Senator McCain"...?
Or did you really think your stunt would make you look more like an authoritative leader who commands respect and is due the worship of the lower beings in the room??

Then when one Republican representative went a minute over his allotted time, he was soundly scolded, even though at that point the Democrats had dominated the talk-time 52 minutes to 24 minutes!!
As moderator, the President made himself look like a buffoonish self-aggrandizing kindergarten teacher!

One more humorous moment came when the President chided Representative Eric Kantor for using "a prop" and attacked him with...
"These are the kind of political things we do that prevent us from actually having a conversation"
So what was the "prop" that Kantor had??
He had the 2400 page health-care bill on the table in front of him. Seriously, the guy had the very document that was being dfiscussed and debated, and was accused of unfairly using a prop to gain advantage!
If showing the very bill that they are trying to ram down our throats is unfair, then just how unfair is this bill??

By the way, if the federal government wants to fight a war. They don't have a bunch of congressmen, lawyers, and staffers do it, they place the responsibility into the hands of well trained and expert professionals like General Eisenhower, General Schwarzkopf, and Admiral Halsey.

And if they want to build highways, dams, or airports, again, they don't send congressmen and their staffs. They hire outstanding professionals and hand the job to them. Same for when they want to send a man to the moon, they let the scientists make all the decisions and then do it.

But, how do they decide on the total overhaul of the nation's entire healthcare system? Well, unlike those other endeavors, they totally ignore the advice of all the healthcare professionals, and they have a bunch of congressmen and their staff sit around a table, formulate a horribly complex bill, then add big time bribes and payoffs to get the congressmen to vote for it.

In all the debate and all the discussion has anyone ever seen even ONE top level medical professional or doctor step forward and give support to this administration? Why is that? Why is it that so few actual experts in the fields of medicine and health insurance are being asked to contribute to the plans to change the nation forever with this giant healthcare bill?

But here's one thing you might not know...
There is one healthcare professional that IS involved, but he's hiding behind the scenes...and for good reason!
He and his ideas are really QUITE unconventional and controversial.

Here are the facts...
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of political hit man Rahm Emanuel, has been hired as President Obama's TOP medical advisor...
How many of you have ever heard that fact?
Here is the proof, that Dr. Emanuel is the top medical advisor to the President...
http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2009/02/dr_ezekiel_emanuel_rahms_broth.html

Now, guess what this man's expertise is??
Well, basically his only claim to fame is that he is a specialist in "bioethics"...or in other words....he has studied medicine, but never practiced it...instead he uses his pulpit and background to lay claim to knowing what is right and what is proper for everyone else.
http://www.bioethics.nih.gov/people/emanuel-bio.shtml

But take one look at his published opinions....
All of his recent publications promote healthcare rationing and withholding of services from the elderly and from handicapped youngsters, because those people will not be productive and will be a drain on the system...and shouldn't be afforded access to the healthcare resources!!
If you don't believe me, look it up yourself...
Here are all the guy's publications....
http://www.thelancet.it/search/results?fieldName=Authors&searchTerm=Ezekiel%20J+Emanuel

Read them if you want, but just check the titles...

-"Ethical criteria for allocating health-care resources"
(he states what should be the criteria for rationing or dispensing healthcare resources and availability)

-"Principles for allocation of scarce medical interventions"
(that he believes we must deny expensive medical procedures to the people who are likely to live very long or who will not ever become productive and pay taxes)

-"Assisted suicide and cancer"
(yes, Dr. Emanuel believes we should encourage cancer patients to just take a pill and die quickly...seriously!!)

So if this guy is President Obama's top medical advisor, then can there be any doubt what is coming if they get their way??
Our healthcare system would resemble something out of the Nazi regime....people who are old, frail, infirm, and even young people who are retarded, handicapped, and likely to never be productive would be deemed a drain on the system, they would be excluded from receiving the care they need, and they would be encouraged, perhaps even required to participate in "assisted suicide"....
I know this is almost too hard to believe, but this guy's own words, in his own personal research and publications all speak for themselves....

No wonder that a year ago over 80% of people when polled said they WANTED the congress to get to work immediately and pass a healthcare bill....but now, just a year later, almost 80% say they want the congress to drop it and stop trying to ram their unwanted bill down everyone's throat.

So what has happened in just a year's time? Well, it boils down to three people...Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and the President ignoring all of what the people say, favoring speacial deals for their favorite sub groups of voters, and the obvious trickery and dishonesty that's going on.

No group of politicians since Neville Chamberlain have fallen into public disfavor faster than these three, and yet they are on TV 100% of the time lobbying for us to give them our support.
Which brings me to another point....please give us back our TV stations and radio stations...
we are so tired of seeing you guys on TV all the time and chiding us for our skepticism. Please drop the push to ruin the nation and go back to work on the important things like jobs, the economy, and wars.
Thank you...

One last item....so they want respect...they want to be taken seriously outside of men's sports??
Then stop acting like a bunch of rotten, spoiled men and start acting like deserving women champions!

Bradley beats Wichita State 75-73, and several other miscellaneous notes

Sam Maniscalco had one of the finest games I can recall by a player at Bradley, and a tremendous game for any point guard at any D-I school!
He was a team leader, and tallied an impressive array of statistics...
19 points, 10 assists, and not a single turnover in a 45 minute game that Sammy played almost 40 of 'em...
In addition 7-7 on crucial FT's and even 2 steals and a block..
He is the BEST player in the Valley and I hope those who do the voting are paying attention.
There was a nice column by one writer this morning giving Dyricus some props for his good game, but oddly there was NOT one single mention by that writer of the career game Sam Maniscalco had.....you gotta wonder did he see the game?? If he did, what does it take to impress enough to get a mention??

Here's yet another expert who does give Sammy the POY award...it's AAU coach and basketball expert Mike Mullins...
http://twitter.com/wolves10/status/9635156665

Bradley also gets some nice help off the bench from Dyricus Simms-Edwards and Andrew Warren had yet another nice night from the field...18 points on NINE shot attempts, and 3-4 from 3-pt range...
Both Andrew and Sam are deserving of 1st Team All Valley!
Chris Roberts isn't among the leaders in scoring stats, but he's been having a great run the past few games as well with tremendous all-around games both offensively and defensively...
I love this team and they are fun to watch.

Hey -- did you know....??
--Bradley is averaging 69 ppg in the Valley, 2nd best in the entire league
--BU's FT percentage is among the top teams in the Valley and all the guys who shoot the best and who shoot the most are going to be back next year
--Our shooting from the field is among the best teams as well
--and our 3-pt shooting is TOPS in the Valley in conference games at 37.4% and at the same time we are the best 3-pt defending team at 31.8% - so to heck with those critics who say Bradley does NOT defend the 3-pt shot well.
--BU is also next and next the best rebounding team, among the top 3 in steals, and of course top 3 in attendance.
--BU has 2 of the top 4 scorers (Warren & Maniscalco) and 3 of the top 8.
(it's an absolute travesty that the guy who will get recognized as the scoring leader in the Valley would finish 7th in the league if he played the same schedule as everyone else -- but he played a 345th worst non-conference schedule, against horribly weak lollipop teams and launched a Valley tops (by far) 378 shot attempts just to barely edge out the better scorers in the league.
Note that Sam Maniscalco shot approximately 150 fewer shot attempts on the season, and yet in Valley scoring actually outscored OE by a bunch 15.0 ppg to 13.8 ppg!!!
--we also have 3 of the top 16 rebounders in the league, the only team besides UNI to do so...)

As noted elsewhere...Bradley is clearly one of the two hottest teams in the Valley over the whole last month...
going 5-3 in February and beating both of the teams leading the Valley...and their only two losses being a 1-pointer and an OT loss.
The only other team even in the ballpark, ISU is also hot right now, but I am confident we can get them in the Valley Tourney.
UNI has lost to Bradley and to the worst team in the Valley
BTW-- this just may be the reason that Bradley has had several top recruits visiting lately - a couple at last night's game...and keep your eye open on campus this weekend as well!!

BU is also one of the ONLY teams that is doing significantly better than where they were picked in the preseason.
UNI is right where they were expected to be and surely nobody expected them to lose to Evansville, so maybe, just maybe they are slipping...
Then the next three teams as they were picked in the preseason poll, Creighton, ISU, and SIU are either right where they were picked or they are well below where they were picked to finish.
Among the top teams in the Valley, only Bradley and Wichita State are significantly outperforming their preseason expectations....so kudos to the Braves and the coaching staff, job well done despite the negative nellies that even populate the boards at Wichita and the other top teams in the Valley.

In fact, as good as Northern Iowa is doing, check this out...
just as recently as the past month there have been threads bemoaning UNI's complete and total LACK of success in the post-season and the changes maybe needed to get past this problem..
and as recently as the DePaul loss last fall and even moreso a few of their bad losses last season (UIC, InSU)...there were people wanting to can their coach, get rid of their current players and start over! What a mindset...but as hard to believe as it is....it seems to exist just about everywhere....people are just not happy with quality...they cannot recognize when they have it so good...
It happened at the tail end of the Molinari period and whining rants helped drive coach Mo out with all the great players he had at the time! Just makes you want to shake you head in disbelief...

Andrew Warren now has 982 career points and might hit 1000 this Saturday.
I believe at the outset of next season, Bradley will be the ONLY team with a player who has scored 1000 career points for a Valley team...and we will have TWO of them!!
Nobody else will have even one..and the only team even close is Creighton's Kenny Lawson will return for his senior season and currently has 864 points.
Andrew also has 148 made 3-pointers in his career so far...and if he stays healthy he could get close to 250 or even more!
Jeremy Crouch finished his career with 262....

Just a thought on recruiting...
We have seen many times that a kid will jump at a chance to sit on the bench at a BCS-type school who gets on TV all the time even spurning comparable offers by a mid-major where the kid could play a bunch even as a freshman and possibly be a star...
we have seen this with DeAaron Williams, Matt Roth, and now with Darius Smith, a BU recruit from last year...
Here's a little reminder of Darius Smith who isn't playing at all at UConn

Anyway -- just a few thoughts from the perspective of the schools doing the recruiting....

--First - if you are a BCS-type school, even ones on the lower end like Northwestern, Indiana, etc...then you can still expect to occasionally land a big name kid and recruit the better talent away from the mid-majors. Players like John Shurna, Nick Fruendt, Matt Roth, Iman Shumpert, Darius Smith, etc...are all proof of that. And only when you are desperate with an open scholarship do you really ever need to go too hard after the mid-level recruits, the kids outside the Top 150...but even then, as Justin Dentmon, Anthony Grundy, Josh Tabb....all prove, you can still almost always steal the kids you want away from any mid-major.

--Then if we look at the bottom of the spectrum of schools, the low majors and bottom dwellers of mid-major conferences, well these guys are happy to land just about any kid with talent....and they don't even bother to make phone calls to the recruits at the 3-Star level and up.

--so that brings us to the teams, like Bradley, who are fighting to be among the best non-BCS schools, and the best mid-majors....
There are roughly 75 BCS-type teams (major conferences plus major state schools like Memphis, New Mexico, Utah, etc..)....then there are about 100 of these stronger mid-majors who dwell in the Valley, A-10, CUSA, MWC, WCC, Colonial, etc...
These are the teams that have the exceptionally tough task of trying to recruit themselves to the top of the mid-major pile...

If they don't at least give a shout out and an offer to some top 3-Star and 4-Star guys, then nobody takes them seriously. But in doing so and striking out on them, you incur the criticism of fans who say "hey you keep striking out!"

But you sure don't want to use up all your scholarships on the obscure kids and the 4-5 year projects...or surely you'll get bashed with comments like "why do we keep recruiting nobodies and waste scholarships on kids who never play?"

So the goal is to keep trying to land as top of talent as you can, meaning occasionally aiming at a good kid who's under the radar (Taylor Brown or Dyricus), yet keep going after the top talent and rarely, even though the effort and the time expense may be exhaustive...you're going to land one or two....
I think our staff at Bradley does a fine job and we get talent comparable to the better teams in our conference, and we prove it by beating every ranked team we played this year!!
I am anxious to see who we land this spring...the spring signing period is April 14 to May 19, 2010.
http://bradleyfans.com/vb/showthread.php?p=168798#post168798

Speaking of recruits...check this guy out....Dwight McCombs (6-8 forward)....ex-Illinois Wolves teammate of Sammy Maniscalco and Carlton Fay...
McCombs is a sophomore at Moraine Valley CC (transferred there from Miami OH)and is averaging 22.3 ppg, and 13.3 rpg...hitting on 70% of his shots!!

Wichita State at BU tonight

I expect the return of Taylor Brown, and Bradley needs a win tonight!
Thankfully the insane rants about the tremendously minor stuff of Taylor Brown twittering has finally died down...curiously nobody ever seems too interested that many other Valley players do the same thing, even guys like Osiris Eldridge that posts videos of other students from the classroom...
One Shocker sub, David Kyles is out with a broken hand.

Wow, Northern Iowa lost last night to Evansville!!
Evansville won 55-54, and UNI shot poorly. Just 33% overall and 21.7% from 3-pt.
Ahelegbe had just 2 points, NO rebounds, one assist, 4 fouls and a turnover...
this guy is NOT deserving of the Valley Player of the Year....and so who else is left...? Adam Koch??? As noted elsewhere, Koch is NOT in the Top 10 in any offensive or rebounding category!!
In fact his scoring and rebounding are more like 15th best in the Valley...
If Koch gets the award, it would be a sad and unfortunate event, given a couple players deserve it more...
Right now I think Sam Maniscalco, Dinma Odiakosa, and even Andrew Warren are MORE deserving of such a top individual honor!!
Only two games left for anyone in the Valley to impress those who vote for POY!

I was kinda shocked to see how poorly SIU played in losing to Creighton in Carbondale. Creighton did not play particularly well, but SIU just doesn't play defense and lets guys dribble right in for easy shots!
Could this mean Chris Lowery is NOT the coach he's been given credit for? Were those great defensive teams from 2002-2007 the result of all the players Bruce Weber and Matt Painter had recruited and left behind?
Gotta think so....I would be blown away if even a D-II team came knocking now to hire Lowery away....
all this talk of Lowery going to DePaul is ridiculous!

I was listening to a Chicago sports radio talk show yesterday, and most of the discussion went on and on about how badly NBC has screwed up the Olympic coverage for the hockey fans...
Much of Chicago cannot get MSNBC and so those people, even if die-hard hockey fans, still couldn't watch the Canada-US hockey game...and many of the other key games are either NOT being shown at all or being shown on tape delay...while hours and hours of ice dancing by unpronouncably named Eastern Europeans are being shown incessantly.

Clearing up a few loose ends....

---Be sure to vote for the Bradley players, and keep voting every day!!

http://www.archmadness20.com/moments.asp?SPSID=25965&SPID=1498&DB_OEM_ID=3400

http://www.archmadness20.com/team.asp

---Taylor Brown....
here is the fact....that Taylor Brown was NOT disciplined for what he said on twitter, nor was he disciplined by anyone other than the head coach. He was given a simple instruction and thus it becomes a rule, and he disobeyed the rule...so he was penalized accordingly. He is a great kid, a huge part of this team and this team's future, and is well liked within the program

---Now if you want to see who else tweets from class, then the thing you'll note is that at BU it gets taken care of and properly disciplined, but not elsewhere...so go elsewhere if you want to rant about it being allowed and tolerated....
....ONLY at BU is it getting penalized!!

In fact, one potential NBA draft pick currently playing in the Valley not only tweets from class, but he also posts VIDEO from class showing the female classmates!!!
"Class is boring http://twitvid.com/37972"
http://twitter.com/Osiris_Eldridge/status/3892272671

http://www.twitvid.com/37972

and how about Kellen Thornton, who posted this tweet from class with a picture...
"I thought only ****** (racial epithet) fell asleep in class an he snorin loud... This class boring as that thang.. "
http://twitter.com/kelzboog21/status/5834998520
http://img70.yfrog.com/i/m05.jpg/

Thornton also posts tons of terribly offensove tweets with racial slurs and obscenities, then this...
"Bored as hell def shouldn't have went to class.. Smh"
http://twitter.com/kelzboog21/status/8910715283

and...from just late Saturday night...
"Now drunk as f**k-- yea me too lol
about 11 hours ago from Twitterrific"

http://twitter.com/kelzboog21/status/9416592235

and if you search, you'll find that players on every other team in the valley do the exact same thing...so where's the outrage???
Just more evidence that the haters love to go off on anything.......

---Matt Roth....
lots of rumors swirling about Matt Roth, but he is AT Indiana, he enjoys it there, he has said he enjoys it there, he is getting a great education and also has a girlfriend there, so Matt Roth is NOT likely to leave Indiana as long as there is a place for him on the team.
BTW- it has already been decided that Matt will NOT play this year and will pursue a medical redshirt. Maybe that seemed obvious to some, but he was progressing pretty well and beginning to practice and if he even appeared in one game he would have been ineligible for a medical redshirt.
There are numerous discussions on the Indiana boards about Matt transferring and a lot of Hooiser fans actually want him to transfer...

Here are a couple examples...
"I hope Matt transfers. I think it will be beneficial to both parties. Of course, I don't know if HE looks at it that way and if he stays, good for him. I just think he doesn't fit the system and could excel at a Bradley, Butler, SIU or somewhere like that.
We would be better off by having freed up a schollie for use in '11 or '12."

"I wouldnt be a bit surprised to see MR head to Bradley and TP to Dayton.
In MR's case, I expect it."

"If Im him, do I want to play 3 years at a place where Im going to get, it appears, minimal playing time. ...playing days are precious. ... I just feel, when he really thinks whats best for him for the next few years (he'll transfer)"
http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=170&f=2347&t=5618136

That being said, in his post game press conference Saturday, after Indiana got blown out by Minnesota scoring in the 80's...Tom Crean said...guys who won't or can't play defense won't be at IU next year, so clearly there's concern that some scholarships are going to get Janked....
"Coach Crean stated on his post game, that he told the guys who don't want to guard to find some where else to play because it won't be here. This is the 3rd or 4th time i've heard him say something like this....
...Roth, Rivers, Pritchard, Muniru, Moore, Dumes, & Jobe ..... They are not going to be a part of the next great IU team and frankly I'm not sure how any of them are building up a foundation...."

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=170&f=2353&t=5639478
http://indiana.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=731&tid=140256895&mid=140256895&sid=942&style=2
http://indiana.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=731&tid=140246532&mid=140246532&sid=942&style=2
http://indiana.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=731&tid=140246532&mid=140246532&sid=942&style=2

But then note this commentary...
"Speculation is growing about how much longer Tom Crean will last at Indiana. Saturday’s 81-58 loss to Minnesota — the Hoosiers’ eighth straight defeat — left the once-proud program 9-17 overall and 3-11 in the Big Ten. Crean, brought in from Marquette to clean up the scandal-ridden mess left by Kelvin Sampson, is now just 15-41 overall and 4-28 in the Big Ten since taking over in 2008. ... Maybe Crean’s hiring should be a lesson for the Big Ten: Avoid the Big East at all costs during a coaching search."
http://www.nj.com/college-basketball/index.ssf/2010/02/college_basketball_plus_did_we_learn_anything_from_this_years_bracket-buster_games.html

Plus, a lot of the Indiana fans on message boards are getting ticked they haven't landed quality players, and seem to be battling for mid-major caliber players (even Justin Gant's and Matt Roth's names come up on this topic...)
http://hoosierhoopla.blogspot.com/2010/02/watching-iu-is-getting-painful.html

"Roth????? Wil never undertand why he is given so may props as being a huge part of this team and making them sooo much better. Last year he made some shots but was horrible on defense and that was it. Other then threes he had nothing to offer so why are we better with him now?"
http://indiana.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=731&mid=140226050&sid=942&tid=140224770&style=1

[btw--Justin Gant scored a game-high 24 in Terre Haute North’s 61-60 overtime win over Cathedral, lifting his team to 15-5 on the season]

---rumors on the Saluki board that Anthony Booker and other players are leaving....following Nick Evans and all going to USI to play for ex-assistant Rodney Watkins...
Booker even posted something on his Facebook that says...

Taylor Brown, the Drexel Game, and more...

There's some good news....everyone is healthy and Dodie is way ahead of schedule in getting stronger and will be a force when he returns. Also Dyricus is progressing well and will help a ton today as BU will be shorthanded.
but, there's still work to be done this season!

Andrew Warren is 54 points away from hitting the 1000-point mark! He should get there by the first game of the MVC Tourney!
Sam Maniscalco just passed the 1000-point mark and is now sitting at 1069.
The next highest active career scorer on the roster is...
Chris Roberts at 555
Taylor Brown is at 439...
Dodie Dunson is at 549 (but 161 of those points were with Iowa State)
In his 6 years, Sam Singh has totalled 355.

It is being reported that due to internal discipline issues, Taylor Brown is being given some penalties of the coach's discretion....Bradley's RPI and the possibility of an at-large bid aren't really in the equation...but BU still needs to win this game for a confidence builder...
But the whole thing does stand out in stark contrast....as a simple tweeting issue gets more discipline at BU than a DUI gets at ISU or underage drinking and fighting get at SIU.

BTW - still a few comments on the McLean Co. site about three different, well known basketball players and their failures to show up for their court dates, and the requests for warrants sworn out for their arrest...
Interesting story, had it been in Peoria, the local paper would have assuredly assigned four or five reporters to cover it!!

Update of BU recruiting target Just Gant..
Here's from a recruiting blog...
"Gant’s situation is intriguing. At 6-8, 200 pounds, he’s a skinny power forward at the moment with the lean but muscular body of a really tall cross country runner. However, he certainly has inside outside skills. He scored 21 of the Partiots’ 36 points in the loss. made a nice post-up turn in to score on Hammons and he hits some shots from 15 feet and out.
“I think he’s progressing nicely,” Terre Haute North coach Todd Wolfie said. “He’s added some strength, he’s added a lot to his game. He’s getting to the point now where he can take the ball to the basket and put the ball on the floor. He shoots it really, really well.”
Gant admits he needs to improve his 3-point shot to be even more of an inside-out power forward. At the moment, he said he’s holding offers from mid-major schools like Indiana State, Evansville and Bradley, but a big summer on the AAU circuit (he’s playing with Spiece) could earn him more high-major attention."

also in the interview, he seems to still value the offer from Bradley!

Update on Ken Kavanagh - he's having to make some tough decisions...but it is clear what's going on --
the additional money raised will help them in the Athletic budget and in recruiting, possibly getting them to the next level...

Here's a funny story about how the University of Illinois team committed NCAA violations just to put on a good show for a national TV audience on ESPN's Game Day...
ESPN claims they had nothing to do with it, but some talk on message boards says they encouraged it!

BTW - How can the law system in Iowa be so slow, when it is obvious that some lawyers are pretty busy and pretty active...in fact how do these people stay so busy and accomplish so much when the Iowa courts can't get anything done?
If you have been reading the news, Alabama law professor Amy Bishop is now known to have shot and killed her brother (years ago, and gotten away with it!), been involved in a pipe bombing (all charges dropped) and now has killed three more innocent people while on a shooting rampage...all the while leading a busy life as a college law professor.
Wonder if this lady had been a Tea Party goer??

A few Valley notes - and more

Northern Iowa will have senior night vs. ISU on Feb. 27, and given the 3 game suspension for Eglseder encompasses the games vs. Creighton, Old Dominion, and Evansville, then Jordan Eglseder will be back and eligible for the game in Cedar Falls on Senior night.
UNI handled the Redbirds easily in Normal back in January, so this'll be an interesting game that might just be somewhat less meaningful as both teams might, by then, have already locked up their positions in the league.
Eglseder went for 15/8 in the first meeting and Dinma went for 10/14.

Here's a funny error in a west coast newspaper, where the writer thinks that Northern Iowa are the Hawkeyes!!!
http://www.latimes.com/sports/nationworld/wire/sns-ap-bkc-t25-n-iowa-orear,0,278609.story

Speaking of Dinma, here's a thread about the upcoming BracketBuster opponent he's going to face on Saturday...
Nightmare vs. Monster

Osiris Eldridge's scoring has slowed way down, and now it is virtually impossible for him to become their all time leading scorer, or even approaching 2nd place.
Eldridge currently sits in 6th place and needs to score 52 more points just to get to 5th place.
And ISU is likely to get an NIT bid, so reasonably the Redbirds might still play 8-9 more games, giving Osiris the possibility of still scoring 150-200 more points, so the best he might be able to get to in career points would be about 1900 career points, or good enough for the 3rd place spot all time at ISU.
Their #2 all time acorer is Billy Lewis at 1,962, and their all time leader is Doug Collins at 2,240...which is almost certainly out of reach (OE would need to play at least a dozen more games and average 41 points per game.)

Also, news from ISU - Jeremy Robinson who was little used by Coach Jank, and who left a few weeks ago...still wants to play D-I ball...
He is now at Iowa Western juco, optimistic that he will get some attention for the Big Ten. Seriously, is anyone puzzled by that?? He couldn't find a lick of playing time at ISU but thinks he's going to go Big Ten??
He also thinks that even at the Big Ten level he can still play the "4" position even thought he's only 6-7.
Jeremy Robinson Interview

There's a rumor at Creighton that one other possible destination for P'Allen Stinnett might be St. Mary's in California where Stinnett would be a teammate again with his ex-Creighton roster-mate Kenton Walker, who is now at St. Mary's. The other rumor heard was P'Allen going to UNLV.

There's a rumor about Indiana's Matt Roth transferring back to Bradley...but I kinda doubt this will happen...
http://bradleyfans.com/vb/showthread.php?t=14822

But speaking of Indiana, the fans there are actually worried that their team has hit the wall, and won't win another game this season...
And fans are not happy, with Tom Crean already taking a little heat...and fans wanting Mike Davis, and even (gasp) Bobby Knight back as head coach!!!
Indiana basketball fans are not happy

The Bryant Bulldogs finally won a game and are now 1-26...

Mick Yelovich, 6-6 sophomore that BU looked at a little, scored 34 last night in SIUE's 91-76 win over North Dakota. Yelovich has his average up to 16.2 ppg, and has averaged 25 ppg over the past 3 games.

Pac-10 1st place team, Cal, lost last night to bottom dweller, Oregon State...tightening the league up.
Cal still holds on to 1st place at 9-5, but just two games separates 1st from 7th, and four games is all the difference from 1st place to 10th (last) place.

Here's a college basketball guy, and since he's in the gambling and handicapping business I'd say his opinion on the subject is likely to be solid...and he agrees with me. He thinks the mid-majors get a raw deal from the NCAA come tourney time.

Our players need HUGE support from the fans for the final 3 games and the Valley Tourney---
they are down, knowing they didn't play as well as they know they can, and the bus trip back from Terre Haute was really a downer...
Oddly nobody seems to play well in Terre Haute and it's just hard to win there - with only UNI doing so this year.
But our guys can pull it together....and I am rooting for them...
we have the talent, let's just get it done...

In one MVC game last night, surprisingly Wichita needed overtime to escape an upset loss at home to Evansville, 76-70.
For Evansville Colt Ryan had 17 pts, but as usual needed a whole bunch of shots to get those 17, taking 15 shots, making only 5 and only 2-9 3-pointers.
He also had zero rebounds, one assist, and virtually nothing else...one dimensional and even shallow in that one dimension.
And what has happened to Toure Murry? Only 1-4 and 5 pts.

Note this, Wichita State is solidly in 2nd place, yet their fans were booing their team last night!! Can you imagine???
http://www.shockernet.net/sn/viewtopic.php?t=16311

ISU beat MSU - Weems & Leonard each had a good game (19 pts, 20 pts) but nobody else did. Eldridge continues his slump going just 1-5 from 3-pt., only 2 rebs and 4 TO. But Dinma picked him up getting 30 pts.
Eldridge's 3-pt shooting since their game with Bradley is just 5-27.
Osiris still leads all Valley players in scoring when all games (including those really softie ones in the pre-conference season) are included.
His overall scoring average is 15.6 ppg, but in conference games where the opponents are essentially the same...Osiris is averaging only 13.7 ppg, barely ahead of Taylor Brown for 6th place in the Valley.
Here are a couple other stats that Eldridge is among the leaders in the Valley in...
He's #1 in shots attempted per game, and among the top 3 in 3-pointers attempted per game, 3 pointers missed per game, and 4th in turnovers per game but is TOPS in turnovers among non-point guards...who obviously handle the ball more.

SIU fans are dissing on their team and saying their team has quit...
http://www.salukitalk.net/st/viewtopic.php?t=31874

In even more evidence of how classless fans can be...Creighton fans are really dumping on Dana Altman??
http://creighton.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=2688&tid=131586839&mid=131586839&sid=1209&style=2

Rumor - P'Allen Stinnett to UNLV - Lon Kruger has a pretty good history of courting dicgruntled transfers and Stinnett is originally from UNLV.

Alonzo Edwards, who BU was once recruiting, and who was a high school teammate at Houston Klein Forest of Anthony Thompson, went initially to Nebraska, then Lon Morris juco, has now verballed to North Texas.

One name to remember - Jovan Daniels....

Here's a laffer...it's the updated NIT-ology site...trying to predict who is gonna be in the NIT...
They name Wichita State under the presumption that UNI is gonna be the MVC's NCAA representative.
But then they also list Missouri State as in, but list Indiana State, Creighton, and Illinois State as outside, bubble teams.
http://www.nitology.com/

Northwestern loses to Penn State and their NCAA chances slip further away...
Northwestern is now 6-8 in the Big Ten, but Penn State had lost 12 games in a row...then go into Evanston and beat Northwestern on thsie home court - not good for the Wilscats' at-large resume!! Northwestern has 4 more Big Ten games, three are on the road (one at Wisconsin), so I cannot believe they will end up better than 9-9 but more likely 8-10 in league play.
That pretty much locks Northwestern in at 7th place in the Big Ten and RPI will be around 80 with SOS of 80.
So, when was the last time a team with RPI over 70 got an at large bid, especially one that's 7th in their own league?
The highest RPI's to get at-large bids over the past four years are:
62, 61, 67, and 58.

Don't look now, but here's an embarrassment to the Big Ten....and to both Iowa and Indiana....who could have had this guy...
But Steve Alford has New Mexico at 312 ranked, and continues to win...gaining his 300th D-I win (SWMS, Iowa, New Mexico) last night to go to 24-3!!
He also has 78 wins at D-III Manchester, so he's almost half way to his old mentor's career wins total!
He's making them forget Ritchie McKay fast!!

Mississippi State fans take over the lead as world's worst fans....(taking the lead from you-know-who)...
not only did fans inundate Kentucky's DeMarcus Cousins' phone with foul texts and voice messages (he reneged a verbal to UAB and went to UK), but they behaved terribly at the game throwing things at the Kentucky players and coaches.

Who will be the MVC Player of the Year

I think several players are neck and neck and whoever has the best final two weeks might be the favorite...

Just a couple days ago, you might have said UNI's Jordan Eglseder was perhaps the leading candidate, but his DUI and 3 game suspension will hurt big time, and probably knocks him out of the running.
Adam Koch & Kwadzo Ahelegbe are both on the Valley's top team, but their individual stats are down from last year and don't rank either of those guys in any Top 10 scoring or defensive categories.
So to be POY shouldn't you have some nice individual stats? Even a couple years ago when Drake's Adam Emmenecker won the Player of the Year, he didn't have great scoring numbers, but he had almost 6.5 assists per game the best total in the MVC in a couple decades!!

So then who is still at the top of the list......

Here's the list of guys who got preseason mention, both All-MVC and Hon. Mention...

******************************************************
Preseason Player of the Year -- Osiris Eldridge, Illinois State

2009-10 MVC Preseason All-Conference Team
Name, School, Pos., Ht., Wt., Year, Hometown, High School
Kwadzo Ahelegbe, UNI, G, 6-2, 200, Jr., Oakdale (Minn.) Tartan High
Osiris Eldridge, Illinois State, G, 6-3, 215, Sr., Chicago (Ill.) Phillips Academy
Tony Freeman, Southern Illinois, G, 6-1, 195, Sr., Maywood (Ill.) St. Joseph's / Iowa transfer
Adam Koch, UNI, F, 6-8, 255, Sr., Ashawubenon (Wis.) High
P'Allen Stinnett, Creighton, G, 6-3, 180, Jr., Las Vegas (Nev.) Brewster Academy [N.H.]
Josh Young, Drake, G, 6-1, 174, Sr., Lawton (Okla.) Lawton Christian High

HM: Kevin Dillard, Southern Illinois; Clevin Hannah, Wichita State; Jake Kelly, Indiana State; Sam Maniscalco, Bradley; Harry Marshall, Indiana State; Toure' Murry, Wichita State

******************************************************

Of the 12 players mentioned in the preseason....(and Eglseder was NOT one of them)
--3 are out for probably the rest of the season which hurts their chances (Kelly, Marshall, Stinnett) and probably even eliminates them

--and several are having off years or their teams are doing badly-- I just cannot imagine the POY going to a guy on team below 5th or under .500...

Dillard - his team is 6-9 and one spot out of last place, his individual numbers are still pretty good, though.

Kwadzo - is with the 1st place team so he'll get consideration, but individually he's only averaging 11 ppg, and 2.7 apg - not real impressive.

Osiris - overall scoring numbers are still good, but everything's off from last year and basically he gets points just by jacking plenty.
He is hurting his team with selfishness, and I suspect the people who vote on the awards notice that. (see below)

Tony Freeman - one dimensional - and I doubt the 2nd best player on a 9th place team will get a single vote.

Adam Koch - he might get votes on reputation, but if anyone looks at the numbers, the case gets weaker...individually, as hard as this is to believe,
he's not top-10 in any scoring, rebounding, or defensive category in Valley play!

Josh Young - still has strong numbers, but like Osiris, he's way off from expectations (plus his team is 6-9 tied for 9th) and gets his points
by launching lots of shots and isn't really helping his team.
Also, his team is flirting with 9th place.

Clevin Hannah - is better than expected and should be 1st team

Toure Murry - again...decent numbers, but not really top 10 in much at all...

Then we come to Sammy - who was given only Honorable Mention status in the preseason, but Sam is Top 10 in practically every Valley stat category that numbers are being kept!!!
I think he is the clear favorite as the MOST valuable player in the league and is the best candidate for Player of the Year

Then a couple other players who were left off the preseason accolades have clearly played well enough to get at least 1st team mention (or 2nd/3rd)...

Andrew Warren, Taylor Brown (only player in the TOP 6-8 in scoring AND rebounding AND FT%), Dinma Odiakosa, and just maybe Kyle Weems or Kenny Lawson....

But - if I have to state who are the only guys who actually have a shot at winning the POY, it would be Adam Koch (best player on the best team), Sammy, Dinma, Hannah, or (hold your hats) Andrew Warren!!!
YUP -- how can you NOT consider Warren when he not only helps his team win games, but he's also Top 3 or 4 in several categories such as scoring and FT shooting, and he also ranks among the top rebounders!

-- I believe Eglseder, Eldridge, Harry Marshall, Weems, Lawson, Stinnett, Tony Freeman, and Dillard have all played themselves out of contention and are super longshots.

I think Sam Maniscalco is the clear favorite as the MOST valuable player in the league and is the best candidate for Player of the Year, his numbers alone justify it, he is getting the recognition he deserves in the weekly awards, and he even has tons of those intangibles that knowledgable people like the guys who vote on this award DO notice....like guts, grit, savvy, leadership, and late game leadership and even some heroics!

I'm highly biased, but I have to agree. SM has had a great MVC year, but I'm like others have said, I think it'll be hard for a middle of the pack team's player getting this award....so Bradley needs to finish STRONG and end up in at least 3rd or hopefully 2nd place!

But again.....whoever among the top players has the best performances this week and next week will win the award as those who vote will have a better memory of what's gone on lately. And where the teams finish will also matter.....thus even if Sammy has great games, if BU falters and finishes 6-7th, then he'd be out of the running for sure...so BU must play well and WIN.
Go Braves!!

But for those who still think Osiris Eldridge should be a strong consideration because he has some of the most impressive numbers, let me answer this way....
Just look at the Valley only stats, where Eldridge's scoring drops to 13.6 ppg despite leading the Valley by an ENORMOUS margin in the number of shots jacked up...
OE's FG % isn't even on the map, while Sam Maniscalco's shooting pct. is among the leaders in the entire league...the only guard up there (52.4%).
Eldridge's 3-pt shooting pct. also barely makes the Top 25 in the Valley (he's 24th at 33.7%), and he rarely gets an assist!!

I just checked something else on Osiris Eldridge...feel free to check yourself...
since the ISU site has a game-line play-by-play for every one of their games, I thought I'd check how often Osiris helps his team down the stretch...
I counted all of his shots and scoring in the final 3 minutes of every Valley game...

What I found will astound you...it sure astounded me...
Clearly, if you're a gamer, a POY candidate, then you want the ball in your hands and you help your team by hitting baskets down the stretch, right....

Well, in FIFTEEN MVC games thus far (and I included their one OT period), Osiris Edridge has made only FOUR baskets in the final 3 minutes of games & OT's...

!!!!!....ONLY FOUR !!!!...and if you expand that search to the final FOUR minutes of all Valley games and OT periods, then the number jumps all the way to FIVE baskets in the final four minutes of Valley games & OT periods..... (he had one bucket recently at the 3:58 mark).
This is where he should shine and be making lots of KEY buckets, instead his shooting pct. in the final minutes of games is abysmal...plus there are lots of turnovers, fouls, etc...

In addition......of the four baskets in the final 3 minutes...THREE of them all came in one single game...a horrible loss at Drake when ISU trailed at half 35-15!!!
The game at Drake was where OE was scoreless in the first half then launched a gazillion shots in a losing effort in the 2nd half just to keep ISU from losing at Drake by more than double digits...(they still lost by 10 and the game was never really that close.)
Those 3 buckets in the final 3 minutes of that game obviously were meaningless, as they were just to pad O's stats, and he was launching against Drakes subs and garbage time players.

So my challenge is this...show me where OE has helped ISU win a single game!!
The one and only decent 2nd half or late game performance came in a blowout loss...and the only other basket inside the final 3 minutes of any Valley game was when he lauched FIVE times in the overtime period at SIU and made only one of them helping his team to the loss down at Carbondale...
(finishing the game 5-21, while his counterparts Dillard, Freeman, & Bocot went off for 44 pts.)

I rest my case...he has not helped them win a single game...and even by Tim Jankovich's own words...his performances are hurting his team!!

The Pantagraph said this...
"He isn’t helping the team and is randomly jacking up shots...
Eldridge is mired in a horrendous shooting slump and yes, he does launch some ill-advised shots...Jankovich has taken him out of some recent games after putting up 25-footers."

Go Braves - and an amazing story - perhaps the story on the millenium thus far!!

First, congrats Bradley Braves for a HUGE victory on Saturday over #18 ranked Northern Iowa...the first time in 30 years BU has knocked off such a highly ranked team at home.
Then with UNI's Jordan Eglseder messing up and likely causing team chemistry issues, the Valley Tourney is wide open!
Go Braves, here's the skinny --
http://www.bradleybraves.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=25965&SPID=1498&DB_OEM_ID=3400&ATCLID=204887976

But - I will devote the rest of this blog installment to THE news story that might just be the MOST important piece of news in at least the past 20 years...and everyone should be required to read it....even in all schools - as a lesson how NOT to do science and run world governments!

First, you have to understand, the United Nations' International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the single MOST powerful and influential body when it comes to all the news and opinions on global warming and climate change...and has been so for YEARS!!
These guys' words are like gospel to half the world, ALL the liberals, and most of the global warming activists and believers...(although anyone with open eyes or who reads this blog should know by now that most of their data is wrong, disproven, fraudulent, biased, and corrupted by greed and political agenda).

These UN scientists are the very scientists in the IPCC whose words, studies, and opinions have driven just about every governmental decision for two decades, and who Al Gore worships, and who all the warming advocates have cited as proof of their correctness.
In other words...the IPCC is to global warming & climate change, what the Bible is to Christianity and what the Declaration & Constitution are to the United State and to Freedom!!

And the IPCC has run full steam ahead - pushing their global warming agenda for year after year after year despite growing evidence that they were wrong and basing all their science on faulty data and lack of facts.
In other words....even though the evidence has been there for years that they were and ARE wrong, they've been telling us all to sit down and shut up because they are the experts and they are right no matter what!!!

Well..............guess what just happened....they didn't just blink, they just waved the white flag, laid down to die, and kissed the butts of all their doubters all in one step today!!

This story is monumental, even though many news outlets have yet to carry it!!!
That doesn't surprise me, as most news people are devoted liberals, global warming worshippers, and were blindly following anywhere the IPCC would lead.

BUT - you won't have the facts hidden from you here...so brace yourself...

This morning, several news outlets are reporting the the TOP UN scientists in climate research are conceding that their conclusions are all wrong and they are all based on faulty data.
They are essentially retracting everything they have ever said about global warming!!

Here are a few quotes and a couple links...read for yourself...this is cut and pasted right from the UN admission of stoopidity!!

"World May Not Be Warming, Say Scientists"

"The United Nations climate panel faces a new challenge with scientists casting doubt on its claim that global temperatures are rising inexorably because of human pollution.

In its last assessment the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said the evidence that the world was warming was “unequivocal”.
...new research, including work by British scientists, is casting doubt on such claims. Some even suggest the world may not be warming much at all.

“The temperature records cannot be relied on as indicators of global change,” said John Christy, professor of atmospheric science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, a former lead author on the IPCC.

The doubts of Christy and a number of other researchers focus on the thousands of weather stations around the world, which have been used to collect temperature data over the past 150 years.

"These stations...have been seriously compromised ....the apparent temperature rise was actually caused by local factors affecting the weather stations, such as land development."

The IPCC faces similar criticisms from Ross McKitrick, professor of economics at the University of Guelph, Canada...a strong critic and he has since published a research paper questioning its methods.

“We concluded, with overwhelming statistical significance, that the IPCC’s climate data are contaminated with surface effects from industrialisation and data quality problems. These add up to a large warming bias,” he said.

Such warnings are supported by a study of US weather stations co-written by Anthony Watts, an American meteorologist and climate change sceptic.
....One of the most infamous shows a weather station next to a waste incinerator.

Terry Mills, professor of applied statistics and econometrics at Loughborough University, looked at the same data as the IPCC. He found that the warming trend it reported over the past 30 years or so was just as likely to be due to random fluctuations as to the impacts of greenhouse gases.
“The earth has gone through warming spells like these at least twice before in the last 1,000 years,” he said."

Winning - just a comparison with the other teams in the MVC

Check the facts, correct where you might find some errors, but I think these stats and numbers are being badly overlooked by some.
Do we all want to win more - of course yes...but if you read some of the whines and complaints, you'd think Bradley is the losingest program in the midwest! But the truth is far from that.

I have checked how Bradley matches up in regard to the other programs in the Missouri Valley, and I have tried to find numerous significant categories. I believe I have picked enough categories and will present the numbers...
Here's how BU ranks when looking at these categories, which mostly cover performance over the past 5 seasons - current season included:

-all time wins
-coaching changeovers that often lead to bad & disappointing rebuilding years
-total wins since 2005 (counting right up to today!)
-total conference wins since 2005
-post-season appearances since 2005
-post-season games since 2005
-post-season wins since 2005
-NCAA games since 2005
-NCAA wins since 2005
-MVC Tournament wins since 2005
-Average RPI since 2005
-Average SOS since 2005
-games played while missing starters or key players (included for the heck of it)

OK...here are how the teams finish in those categories...

-All Time Wins: BU is first by far, check yourself at the NCAA official site, BU is 25th most in all of college basketball!

-Coaching changeovers: BU is tied for the fewest along with SIU and CU, although Creighton came dangerously close. Every other team had started over at least once since 2005.

-Total wins: CU 104,UNI 104,MSU 99,BU 98,SIU 95,WSU 91,ISU 90,DU 85,InSU 67,UE57 (BU ranks 4th but would have been easily able to overtake a couple teams ahead had we weakened our schedule)

-Conference wins: CU 57,UNI56,SIU 51,ISU 50,BU 47,MSU 42,WSU 42,DU 39,UE 23,InSU 22 (BU ranks 5th)

-Postseason appearances: BU 4, CU 4, SIU 3, DU-ISU-MSU-UNI-WSU 2ea, UE 1, InSU 0 (BU ranks 1st)

-Postseason games: BU 16,CU 7,SIU 6,WSU 5,DU-MSU-ISU 4ea,UNI 2,UE 1,InSU 0 (this one's a blowout)

-Postseason wins: BU 10, CU-SIU-WSU 3ea, MSU 2, ISU 1 (another big blowout)

-NCAA wins: BU, 2, SIU 2, WSU 2 (tied for 1st)

-NCAA games played: SIU 4, BU 3, WSU 3, UNI 2, DU 1 (2nd - tie)

-MVC Tournament wins: CU-UNI-SIU 5ea, BU 4, DU-ISU-InSU 4, MSU-WSU 2, UE 1.
(this also does include Thursday wins - but you'd think we would have had zip the way people gripe..but instead only a couple teams finish a single game ahead of BU in this category)

-Average RPI: CU 51,UNI 64,SIU 76,BU 80,MSU 95,WSU 105,DU 128,ISU 114,InSU 142,UE 187

-Average SOS: SIU 61,InSU 65,BU 67,CU 70,MSU 80,UNI 84,DU 85,WSU 96,UE 103,ISU 113 (ISU dead last! but the top three or four teams are in a virtual dead heat)

-Games played with key players missing & unexpected losses of players - this is a bit subjective, but as I reviewed all the other Valley teams, nobody even comes close to BU on this one...
we have lost key players every single season, Will Franklin, POB, Ruffin, Crouch, Warren, Egolf, Dodie, etc..
This isn't an excuse, just a fact...and it is unfortunate and hopefully will end soon.

So - in the end, add up all the finishes from 1-10 in each of these Valley categories...
In the 13 categories I have ranked...Bradley has SEVEN #1 finishes, ONE #2 finish,
ONE #3 finish, THREE #4 finishes, and ONE #5 finish.
So Bradley's average finish in those 13 categories is a 2.2.

No other Valley team does better in my formula that encompasses a BROAD winning overview...
Creighton and SIU are close...but all other Valley teams are way off on those stats...UNI has an average rank of almost 4! (no postseason success at all and surprisingly little even in the MVC tourney!)

So I am sure there are other ways to cook the data but overall, it is certainly clear that the argument can be made that Bradley has at least as much long term success and wins and as much short and medium term success and wins as any other team in the Valley.
AND,
if we envied those other programs like some do - I am 100% convinced that those whining and complaining BU fans would STILL be just as unhappy.
I have heard people say we should emulate the success of Creighton and one writer said they are a far better program (although quite a few of their own fans sure don't agree), also emulate the success of SIU, of UNI, and even recently the success of Missouri State or ISU! (yes there are BU fans saying we shuold be like them!)
But the facts just don't support that if Bradley had their numbers and their success, the fans wouldn't be any happier...in fact, I suspect with the fans we have in Peoria, they'd all be saying...
Geez...why can't we be as successful long term and short term as BRADLEY IS!!!!!!

You are free to disagree and envy any program you'd like, but I am not so sure I want to jump ship at this time.

Just heard the ex-White Sox Frank Thomas just announced retirement. Frank was a favorite player of mine!

BU hosting UNI Saturday - a few misc. stories...plus a Rashad Austin followup

Of course not every team that's faltering or playing well beneath expectation has a press or a fan base that are murmuring and complaining...as proven here...
I wish we had more of such supportive fans and less of the whiney ones who always want something more...

Northwestern's hopes are fading for an NCAA bid this year...
the Big Ten has at least SIX teams doing clearly better than Northwestern.
The just went to lowly Iowa and lost BIG - dropping to 5-7 in the league and basically tied with Michigan for 7th place.
They may really only have Indiana, Iowa, and Penn State as worse teams below them...
Plus their non-conference SOS is kinda weak, with wins over Central Connecticut, North Florida, NC A&T, Liberty, Tennessee State, and NIU.
Even their premier non-conference won over NC State looks pitiful since NC State is 2-8 and dead last in the ACC.
Northwestern's RPI currently sits at 78 with SOS at 84...not good for at large consideration...

Justin Bocot helped and hurt his team again last night...fouled out...but he was their leading scorer at the time and SIU actually led by as much as 9 points down the stretch. BUT SIU didn't have a basket for a 4 minute stretch and had only one basket over an 11 minute stretch from 11:19 to 00:34...with Bocot staying on the floor and going scoreless all that time, then fouling out near the end when the game was a 1-pt game with 16 seconds left.
Their board is, as expected, all lit up over the coach blowing another lead..and they want Lowery fired!

Rashad Austin followup...he is a senior at Midwestern State (TX), a D-II, and is doing pretty well.
He is averaging 21 minutes per game and 10.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 36 blocks, and almost 60% FG accuracy...

More issues at Indiana...a little controversy as some thought IU coach Tom Crean was a little too miffed about the final score being stretched out in Indiana's loss to Ohio State. Ohio State's William Buford went for a little bit too showy windmill dunk on the Hoosier home court after IU had gone to some subs...and Matta had called a late time out with BIG lead...
and later, Crean didn't really bother to shake hands with Ohio State's Thad Matta..
but isn't a little controversy what the press wants...they really seem to miss those Versace/Donewald days!!

Now for the daily update on global warming... and I am not going to change and call it something else, just because some who would be embarrassed because it's not warming any longer, want to try to alter the actual debate..
Check this out if you want...
just google the term "man made global warming" and you get more than 30,000,000 hits!!
Then try googling any four word phrase you can think of...such as
"in the beginning, God"
"we the people of"
"when in the course"
"twinkle twinkle little star"
"change you can believe"
"man made climate change"
..etc..
Guess which phrase gives not only more hits, but almost as many as all the others combined!!!

Yup...the term "man made global warming" has been used so much that the number of hits rivals any phrase you can think of...so why are the activists trying to change the basic terminology now??
Check yesterday's blog for the answer...

But note this headline...
"Global Warming Hearing Postponed Because of the Snow
A scheduled Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works hearing discussing the impacts of global warming had to be postponed because of the snow and frigid temperatures."

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,585426,00.html
....now that's funny - you have to admit!!

I just think this is a gas....kinda like a flood cancelling talks of how dry it's been lately.

The warming activists are really angry that people just don't buy into their argument and reasoning...
but then why should they when there's been so many lies and fraud!!
"A Pew Research poll released in October revealed that the number of Americans who believe that there is solid evidence that the earth is warming fell from 71 percent to 57 percent in a little over a year."
http://dailycaller.com/2010/02/11/global-warming-gets-the-cold-shoulder/

and I just heard a guy on TV claiming that it's "fact and unequivocal" that the past decade is the hottest on record and 2009 is the hottest year on record.
But of course, the guy isn't reading the real facts....which show the facts he is using are wrong, selective, and chosen carefully just to prove the desired point by people who have admitted openly they lied with their data...just read the past few entries in this blog...or check out this proof...
http://washingtontimes.com/news/2010/feb/11/global-warming-snow-job/

The the guy also just used the very same tactic he was damning....he used lies...
he just said...
There's no snow at the Vancouver Olympics and that's because of warming!!

OK - I am glad this guy brought this up...so here's more facts...

--IT IS SNOWING at the Olympic site...RIGHT NOW now as I type this, and it was snowing yesterday so the guy has no excuse, he simply doesn't know the FACTS..
http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE61954L20100210

--the actual site of the Olympics averages a base of over 70 inches of snow...but in some years, especially the "El Nino" years, there's less.
BUT - currently there is 35 inches of snow base....
35 inches...nearly 3 feet...
so how can those reporters claim there's NO SNOW!!
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/hotstories/6857855.html

Anyway...what is this "El Nino"?? Believe it or not, there are people claiming that El Nino is part of and proof of global warming!!
But this blog allows only real facts, not fairy tales...
El Nino is a reoccurring weather event/pattern that has been happening for several centuries at least...
South American fisherman and sailors first gave the phenomenon the name "El Nino" almost 125 years ago after observations by generations of similar fishermen...and they noted that every few years there were strong, warm southwesterly winds heading up into the Pacific coast of Central and North America.
In fact this link says it's actually been happening for at least 5,000 years...so are you sure you want to claim it's part of the recent global warming claim, because the facts will make that argument look really foolish!
http://www.scielo.cl/pdf/chungara/v40nespecial/art03.pdf

the fact that Vancouver bid on the Olympics over a decade ago, not knowing for sure what the weather was going to be like in 2010, then finding that it's a pretty strong El Nino year, has absolutely NOTHING to do with climate change.

MSNBC keeps bringing in Bill Nye as their top science expert...
I saw Nye again last night on TV...
the guy is funny, he basically makes a living as a clown-like character trying to teach kids science with a 7th grade approach to simple science and experiments.
He doesn't even have a science or chemistry degree, he has a degree in mechanical engineering.
Even his own biography says he got his start first as a stand-up comedian, then on Saturday Night Live and Comedy Central as a comedian....so tell me again why I am supposed to take the guy seriously as a global warming expert??
(but then I guess an ex-sportscaster and a lesbian activist are no more believable)
So isn't this a little like using Jerry Lewis as an serious expert on Constitutional Law?
Or using Groucho Marx as a serious expert to give testimony on tobacco research??

Speaking of MSNBC, did you see where their TV ratings have dropped so low, that it is rumored several of their main shows are about to be axed??
Here's a discussion saying...
"NPR's News Blog is reporting today that Keith Olbermann's show on MSNBC, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, may soon be ending. Ratings have slipped .."
I guess people can only stand so much lack of actual news or facts and just ripping of the reporters on other channels and ripping of people who have no influence on national policy (eg- Palin, Rush).

ISU 62 - BU 61, The Black Out, a nice Ray Brown followup story, and more...

BU played hard but ISU came out victorious...
of interest, Dinma was NOT assessed a single foul in the entire game despite physically battering guys inside...and he has a history of being foul prone, averages 3 fouls per game, has 3 foul-outs this year, and had four fouls last game vs. Drake...
But, not much more can be said, I don't think we played bad but not good enough. In fact.............we played very good 80% of the game and held a decent lead most of the way...then a few shots fell for them and ours didn't...
but again we proved we can play with anyone in this league, and we need to refine that!!

A few past Bradley players I saw and talked with last night...
Will Franklin (about to sign and play in Egypt), Daniel Ruffin, Chuck Buescher, Chuck Westendorf, Gus Mason, Michael Stewart, Brian Lavin, Danny Adams, Gene Morse, and of course Jim Les & Jeremy Crouch.

Beyond the game, I thought the Black promotion was great....everyone loved it, the uniforms looked great, and I believe everyone in the entire universe had something positive to say about it except one person...and that writer, trying hard to be a sourpuss, decided it was worth an entire column in the paper to rip on Bradley for the promotion...

Never mind that every college team does promotions, lots of them...
throwback jerseys, alternate color jerseys, mascots, dancing teams, contests, half-court shots, even quick change artists, etc.....etc...

In fact - nobody should know that better than a newspaper person...after all, I have never seen anything quite like the promotional effort the local Peoria newspaper has sunk into trying to hype their Bradleyhoops coverage...
They have quarter pages ads, several of them every single day, they talk about it all over the sports pages, promote it endlessly even in the offseason, even in their columns and blogs....and they have big banners and links everywhere on their web site, and the columnists have even BROKEN their lifelong policy NOT to post on the message boards, all in an effort to hype THEIR OWN BRADLEY coverage...

Then they sit in judgement and trash on Bradley's efforts to promote their own games, as if they are pure and undefiled here...
Geez...they've sold out to the lowest common denominator in order to hype and try to sell their own Bradley coverage, and it hasn't even been that successful....if you notice the absolute Death Valley like atmosphere on certain message boards, especially after a big win..then it is obvious they own hype isn't working that well.
And on top of that, the one thing a lot of Bradley fans look for the next day, a BOX SCORE of the previous night's Bradley game, is NEVER included in their coverage online...never!!?

I'd say when you spend half your existence promoting yourself, then you really ought not criticize someone else's promotions....
The Black Out was a very well received promotion, and most of these promotions end up with the uniforms being auctioned (as has happened the last TWO times they did throwback jerseys, as I have some of them that I purchased) and the funds from the auctioning of those popular jerseys have benefitted the team and various charities!!

You can't turn on any big time college basketball game on TV (Monday night was Kansas/Texas, last night was Purdue/Michigan State) that doesn't ALWAYS have some promotion going...White Outs, Izzone, Orange Crush, dollar hot dogs, green beer, etc...yet Bradley is somehow prohibited from pursuing the same endeavors, as it doesn't quite please a tiny but vocal part of the populace..
My suspicion is that had Taylor's shot fallen & Bradley won, we'd have heard none of this..
but this is just sour grapes after a tough loss.
I can handle a tough loss without kicking the dog or trashing college students....where's the maturity everywhere else??

Here is a story that gives a nice followup on Ray Brown...
I am happy for him and happy that he has found a place that he is very sucessful at...
He is at Hamline University, a DIII in Minnesota...and is one of the top players in their league.
Congrats, Ray, and I hope you can translate this into a successful career in the pros...
http://www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/83981682.html

One more global warming note just absolutely caused me to rip a gut last night....
if you don't want to read about the warming debate or the useless and stupid things people are saying to promote it or the rock solid disproofs that are showing up now every single day and the red-faed admissions of lying and bad science coming from the very people who ask you to buy this tripe...
then stop here...although I think you'll miss a really funny few lines......

In an effort to try to have a little fun in the midst of a terrible east coast storm...a bunch of kids built an igloo out of some snow and had a little fun...
SERIOUSLY - it's just a bunch of KIDS!!!!
...they made a little joke but apparently it stepped on someone's sensitive little toes...
http://www.nationalcenter.org/2010/02/keith-olbermann-lists-children-as-worst.html

They made a joke about global warming, but before the snow had even stopped falling, one ever-angry, scowl-faced TV commentator ripped into them as if they had stole Christmas!
The ex-sports-commentator-turned-global-warming-expert not only labelled them the worst people in the world, and all kinds of stupid...
he even highlighted something that I find humorous and revealing, as it plays right into what I have been saying for years!!
He ripped them for using the term global warming.....
he argued that it is really "climate change"...

WHAT????
The global-warming-activists have been using the term global warming for at least two decades!!!
The very phrase "manmade global warming" literally keeps me awake at night ringing in my ears, as I have heard them spew it so much, including this very hypocrite who trashes kids for using the very same term he has used...
If you do a Google search for "global warming" you get roughly 100,000,000 hits....
So - this is THEIR own term....I didn't make it up...
and if they now want to change the terminology, then fine, but don't get so danged picky if we can't keep up with you...

BUT-- here's the real secret....the change from "global warming" to "climate change" is, in actuality, a 100% admission that they were wrong!! They are secretly shying away from using the word warming as they now realize it is a wrong and faltering argument.

They've been arguing that man-made global warming is "settled science" for at least a decade and almost two decades..
but now numerous things have occurred that force them to back track and change their own arguments!!

Not only does the evidence clearly point to little or NO further global warming in the past decade, but there's lots, lots more evidence that just maybe much or all of the evidence they used for the "warming" argument was phony, falsified, couterfeit, fudged, cooked, and fraudulently published.

We need look no further than the leaked e mails, the discrediting of numerous top "climate scientists", and the retraction of much of their recent arguments..
Also the disproving of a whole bunch of their recent strong points pretty much leaves their entire argument dead in the water and being taken off life support!!

Just check the blog entries from the past few days for the links that prove this...
Now some of the very scientists who were chanting the "global warming" mantra, have even begun to agree we are in a global cooling period!!!
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2010/01/11/ipcc-scientist-global-cooling-headed-our-way-for-the-next-30-years/

Remember the IPCC are the very people who falsified the melting glaciers data and whose e mails prove beyond question that their data cannot be trusted as they have falsified it and worked in unison with other scientists worldwide to hide and lie about data that proves them wrong.

Lastly....then the change from "global warming" to "climate change" is just a cheap trick to try to dust off their image and to be prepared to say "see we told you so" when the cooling cycle hits for the next 30 years...

They will say they saw it coming.....it's the same kind of disingenuousness we've seen from these people before...
we saw it in the 1970's when they blamed the rising waters in Salt Lake & Lake Michigan and the deep freeze winters on manmade pollutants in the atmosphere.
Then we saw it again in the 1980's when they blamed the numerous dry years/drought on manmade pollutants in the atmpsphere.
Then we have seen it in the 1990's with falsified data from hand picked temperature stations claiming all time record temperatures, when the very same people have openly admitted the hottest years occurred many decades ago...

Does anyone remember this???
How quickly these guys hide their own statements...
Just a couple years ago, NASA conceded their data was wrong and actually 1934 was the hottest year on record...and that the reason their data was wrong, was that in 1934, the measurements and data were far, far less elaborate and some of the hottest areas on the planet (like the Sahara and Outback) had NO measuring stations and so the data was incomplete...
nowadays they just delete the temps from high elevations in order to get selecively and erroneously hotter data with which to make their predetermined claims.
we call it "cooking the data" but they call it settled science.

Now they change again and claim almost every year since 1980 was hotter than 1934!!
geez...what can you believe from these guys??
So even the repeatedly disproven data and "hottest year ever" arguments keep getting retreaded and rehashed over and over with those folks hoping you have conveniently forgotten their previous lies and dishonesty and hoping you'll buy their phony line again this time around.
http://minnesota.publicradio.org/collections/special/columns/updraft/archive/2009/10/could_2010_be_the_hottest_year.shtml

So, in the end...the flip-flopping from "warming" to "climate" to "cooling" to whatever is currently happening is just a new-age way of saying --
"the weather changes and we cannot do a thing about it"..
or "everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it"...
or "you can't blame us for being totally wrong about the warming aspect we shrieked for decades, because we aren't really using the term warming any more"...

But they play it to their gain and advantage...remember, certain people like Al Gore, and the head of GE (and NBC) have made gazillions of bucks with their counterfeit science...which they now openly admit they've been caught propagating complete lies!! They actually admit they are guilty of lies, distortion, and bad science, but they still expect you and me to bow down and worship their claims.
(but rest assured they won't give back the money and Nobel Prizes they "stole"...)

By the way - here's how honest these climate guys are...
they preach at you to be green, then they themselves mock you and me and fly fully empty Lear Jets and use their inefficient cars to travel a couple blocks!

So -- ex-sports commentator - if you want to trash a bunch of kids for using the phrase "global warming", then don't forget to trash these people also, as they have frequently used the very same term...

Al Gore:
"There are many who still do not believe that global
warming is a problem at all. And it's no wonder:
because they are the targets of a massive and well-
organized campaign of disinformation.."

Barack Hussein Obama:
"..the chain of natural catastrophes and devastating
weather patterns that global warming is
beginning to set off around the world.. the frequency
and intensity of which are breaking records
thousands of years old"

David Letterman:
"President Bush says he's really going to buckle down
now and fight global warming. As a matter of
fact, he announced today he's sending 20,000 troops
to the sun"

Jay Leno:
"the global warming outlook is much worse than
originally predicted. Which is pretty bad when they
originally predicted it would destroy the planet."

Stephen Colbert:
"I dare say Gore's movie is the highest grossing
PowerPoint presentation in history. ... Global
warming: Can we live with it?"

Keith Olbermann (in his countdown, but also many, many other quotes he uses the very same phrase that he trashes other for using..)
"And our winners:.. And today, as part of their made-
up story they call “Climategate,” they had a scoop.
Jon Stewart was denying global warming. .."

Even widely respected media expert David Horowitz - who is a BRADLEY GRADUATE and far more knowledgable, professional, and highly respected than most of the scowl-faced, vein-popping-angry commentators - SAYS THIS ABOUT Mr. K.O. -
"We all know what a petty, juvenile clown Keith
Olbermann is, but his latest attack ...really sets a
new low"

Thank you David Horowitz!
