Followup on Michael Ochereobia, Tyler Les, the Kansas, Tennessee, and UConn scandals, Polls being way, way off, and the weird illnesses at Iowa...

BU recruit Michael Ochereobia had one of his best games yet....all he needs is the playing time...

Tyler Les still not getting much PT but hot from 3-pt....hitting 50% on the season..but more impressive...
69.2% since Thanksgiving!

Ex-Bradley recruit Chris Colvin resurfaces..the usuals are recruiting him...West Virginia, Iowa, Illinois ...he's averaging about 16 ppg, 7 apg at juco...and is mentioned in a Chicagohoops blurb.

Followup on the scandal at Kansas....
The final Kansas defendant cops a plea and thus remains silent and protects the school - thus hiding all the facts about the massive cheating scandal there....and protecting the important positions at Kansas.
I guess we all knew this was going to happen -- especially when all the attorneys and judges involved are big time Kansas grads and boosters...

BOTH UConn and Tennessee were told the NCAA would decide and announce penalties for all their many violations by February..but here we are...and nothing...these guys always get a pass........even though the evidence is damning and overwhelming, and they are so obviously guilty...
Why does NCAA do this...they gave USC five years before penalties on Reggie Bush and still they let USC basketball totally off the hook.
Someone find even ONE example of a mid-major who gets let off the hook for not only months but YEARS at a time!!!

Good thing both POB and AP are out of Toronto -- they have been hit with a tremendous series of injuries...
Linas Kleiza is the latest with surgery on his knee for microfracture -- likely keeping him off the courts for a year!

This year's preseason and early season rankings and Top 25 were the MOST horribly inaccurate I have seen in years......
Time has proven that those voting in the polls could have almost drawn out of a hat and done better....
Here are some examples of the really BAD picks...teams who were ranked early on that are NOT good...

-Michigan State was ranked #2 - now 13-9 and not only unranked but not even getting a single vote

-Kansas State was ranked #3 - now 15-8 and not only unranked but not even getting a single vote

-UNC was ranked #9 - now 16-5 and #23

-Gonzaga was ranked #12 - now 15-8 and not only unranked but not even getting a single vote

-Baylor was ranked #14 - now 14-7 and not only unranked but not even getting a single vote

-Memphis #19 - now 16-6 and not only unranked but not even getting a single vote

-Mizzou is likewise in the bottom half of the Big 12...
after being in the Top 10 all the way thru their cupcakes -- up 'til the conference season.

-Likewise Butler was inside the Top 20 early on but are now completely out of it and in the bottom half of the Horizon!

-Lastly-- Northwestern was getting votes for the Top 25 in the preseason...and rose to getting almost enough votes to crack the Top 25 -- but now they are 13-8 and at the bottom of the Big Ten

Here's a name many older Bradley people will recall.......
Jane Ising -- wife of world reknowned Bradley physics professor Dr. Ernst Ising, is in the news...she's 109 years old!!!

One more followup on the really mysterious illnesses, rhabdomyolysis, at Iowa.....
You can do the search yourself...but even ONE SINGLE case of exertional rhabdomyolysis is extremely scarce...and nobody has ever seen even two or three happening at the exact same time...
but we are being told to just accept that THIRTEEN simultaneous cases at Iowa is just a happenstance??
Baloney -- someone is lying or covering up some important info -- and it's pretty clear why!!!
Because almost any substance that might be capable of doing this is ILLEGAL and could result in not only those players and coaches being banned...but possibly going to jail as has happened in the Balco case, if indeed there's such an explanation.
So -- of course nobody's talking and everyone is on FULL SPIN mode and deflecting all questions...and even very secretive about the medical records.

Clearly some toxin, drug, or substance ingested by these athletes HAS TO remain the top possibility.

BUT - as stated many times - many of the steroids & supplements that are being abused or used illegally for the purpose of enhancing athletic performance...
are new, synthetic steroids (bought illicitly from secretive sources in the US and Europe) that have NOT been very thoroughly tested...because they are intentionally being kept secret so they will remain unknown and impossible to detect.
Thus..you cannot possibly say anything with certain about their effects...and some may well have heightened, undesirable effects.

During the US Senate hearings on illegal steroids....a lot of the testimony was quite interesting...

--they admit it is virtually impossible to find many of the "designer steroids"

--some have "risk of serious health problems"

--even if a new substance is discovered, it may be months before it can specifically be outlawed since it is not within the realm of the government to outlaw something that is unknown

--many of these designer anabolic steroids DO exist in over-the-counter "dietary supplements" that are VERY easy to get and NOT currently outlawed

--"Chemists continue to create new derivative products by substituting and altering the testosterone molecule and then market them as “dietary supplements”. Often, these new formulations have never been clinically tested and any adverse reactions in humans are simply unknown. In some instances these products have been linked to serious ..health issues"

--"Recently, DEA has identified products in the dietary supplement market that contain small amounts of schedule III anabolic steroids. The presence of these anabolic steroids was not listed on the label of specific products and the consumer was not aware that the substance that he or she had purchased from the local nutrition shop contained a controlled anabolic steroid. Analyses of some dietary supplements by DEA labs as well as independent analytical labs have identified controlled anabolic steroids in products purchased directly from the local nutrition shop."

--"An analysis of more than 600 dietary supplements revealed that approximately 15% contained anabolic steroids.
Two-hundred and forty of these supplements were from the United States"

--"..survey of 500 AAS users (androgenic anabolic steroids) revealed that 26% of the respondents started use during their teenage years with 95%reporting poly-drug use."

--some of those supplements are even tainted further with products that can cause organ failure...

--these reports specifically link a common supplement to rhabdomyolysis

So nobody knows for sure what happened, but the sudden occurrence in 13 players of an exceedingly rare syndrome that caused muscle damage -- surely must evoke memories of the sudden occurrence back in 1983 in Peoria of 28 people who suddenly developed similar, weaking of muscles...

The very first thought by the outstanding doctors who saw those people was that some common poison or toxin was involved...and of course they were absolutely correct....and their quick thinking led to the identification of something so rare that most doctors have never even seen a case of it.
Likewise, you'd have to place the same logic in this setting...and start looking for the toxin involved, although the desire to keep it secret will be very strong -- as it is likely not only illegal, but if it is found then those players would have to be declared ineligible as well....

BTW -- I happen to know well some of the doctors listed in this CDC report of the Peoria botulism outbreak and credited with saving so many lives with their astute judgement and quick actions in that Peoria outbreak...
