Great Tickets still available -- nobody's gonna get shut out, and more...

Well, we're already almost a week into the period where anyone can go to the new Bradley arena and purchase tickets for the games and events in the Men's Basketball Arena, and guess what??
There are still many, many great seats available...
Seats not just in the lower bowl, but seats right at midcourt just a few rows behind the benches and scorers' table!
And seats just about anywhere else you'd want in case you want to sit in the end zone.

Now, does anyone have a single bit of doubt that the Chicken Little's were wrong? Even if we were playing EIU in the on-campus arena, those tickets would be easy to get....and those seat locations are far, far better and easily obtainable than the seat locations of the very people who had worried about getting "shut out".
Even if post-season games are held there -- it'll be the same, and yet nobody's been shut out this year, so maybe the worry was premature. That won't stop a true worrier, though.

So likely nobody is ever gonna get "shut out" of a game there...nobody!
All that phony concern expressed for those season ticket holders who'd miss out!! I don't know of any.....because the vast majority -- not just a few, but the vast majority of the season ticket holders are not racing up to the ticket office and locking in on seats for those games.
So, again panic mongers were way wrong...
the only people who will ever get shut out of a game in the on-campus arena are the ones who want to be.
It's possible that maybe some game there will sell a lot of tickets, but not right away...only after many days and after a few ads run, and maybe not even until after a lot of walk-up fans and students get there first on game day. So it is now pretty obvious the fears and worries of missing a game because all the tickets were gobbled up by season ticket holders were about as realistic as worries that we saw about 30 years ago of another impending ice age!

Cellus is off to a good start. He is playing with his new team from Paris, Paris Levallois. They are in their preseason, and Cellus is one of their best players...
He just got some press for putting up 16 pts, 12 rebounds vs. Maccabi Haifa and ex-Hoosier marco Killingsworth in their preseason Eurocup Challenge.

He was also their leading scorer the night before.

BU's coaches are out on the recruiting trail.....
Coach Vogt is in Indiana, probably to see Kellon Thomas (Indianapolis Southport HS) and other players this afternoon.

Coach Les is also in Indiana...

Here's a story that surprised me........
Everyone's heard of Dolton Thornridge High School. They won the basketball State Championships in 1970-71 (31-1) and 1971-72 (33-0) with the Quinn Buckner-led team that was hailed as the best team ever. Their coach was Ron Ferguson who later became a long time Bradley employee and Athletic Director.

Thornridge is in a big Chicago suburb and has an enrollment of over 1700 - playing in the largest IHSA class in all sports, and yet.....
They are going to be closed down...never to exist again!!
They're morphing into a freshman academy as part of a bizarre test-tube experiment where the school district is laying down and letting the feds use them as guinea pigs.

So what's behind all this?? Well, someone in Dolton, IL discovered an obscure way for the school district to land an $18 million grant. Yup, they are selling out for a big payday...
Like a lot of school districts, their ineptitude and mismanagement has caused them to become cash-strapped, and they're scouring for ways to hit paydirt.
By going after this big grant that'll surely send a few school district employees on nice vacations, and note that some of the cash will go to teachers, but they have to follow certain rules, though...

"Thornridge High School in Dolton will close and reopen as a "freshman academy" in the 2011-12 school year
The grant District 205 received is funded through the U.S. Department of Education and has strict requirements the districts must follow.
..the district must replace the principals at all three high schools by the 2011-12 school year.
..Portions of the $18 million also will be used as rewards for teachers whose students improve their test scores. The rules of the grant dictate the district can use pay increases, promotions or flexible schedules to recruit and retain more qualified teachers..."

So...all this transformation, the permanent closing of one of the state's largest and most well known schools, and the firing and re-hiring even of principals...
all just to satisfy some ludicrous jumping-through-hoops kind of rules in order to cash in on big bucks.

It sounds a little like that ridiculous TV show where silly Japanese people get knocked into the mud and slammed off platforms in a pond, all in hopes of cashing in regardless of how stupid they've made themselves look. It also reminds me of that age old joke......about how much would someone be willing to prostitute themselves for...thus even if it's $18 million, then the only fact in question is how much does it take?

Although schools that do closed scrmimages instead of exhibition games, cannot talk much about their scrimmages, Ilinois State is going to do a closed scrimmage against Jim Molinari's Western Illinois squad, November 6. It'll be at Redbird Arena in Normal.

Also -- more evidence of a payoff that ISU negotiated to land John Wilkins...
"There are two new banners hanging in the Redbird Arena rafters. One is for Jeff Wilkins, who wore No. 00 and played at ISU from 1975-78, and the other for Bubbles Hawkins (No. 21 from 1972-75). Expect some future announcement about those numbers going into the ring of honor."

Here's a legit question -- They are retiring number 00 in honor of Wilkins, yet the picture and the page they have honoring him shows him wearing #44, unless they've made a mistake and used a picture of someone else!

Maybe this would be a better picture...

And doesn't it seem this constitutes getting a little ahead of yourself??
...or they embarrassed to talk about their non-conference schedule? Their official athletic web site is jumping the gun a little and already talking about their BracketBusters opponent...

Creighton also has a story up about BB, but theirs is way, way more informative listing all the home and road teams and giving lots more info...

SIU obviously needs help bad -- maybe there's a guy on campus that fits the bill...

Wichita State landed a kid who is under the radar...
Of all the kids Wichita is linked with, he's really the most obscure and minimally rated...
His name is Tekele Cotton...a 6-1, 165lb guard from Georgia.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Tekele-Cotton-87810

He averages 29% on 3-pointers and 61% on FT's...and 12ppg, 5apg, 6 rpg overall.

Michigan State is the place you wanna be if you're into breaking laws and want to get off easy...
Two basketball players reportedly rape a woman on campus, evidence is strong, even the cops and investigators push hard to prosecute, but the Ingram County Prosecutor declined to press charges!
http://wtvbam.com/news/articles/2010/oct/01/no-charges-against-two-michigan-state-basketball-p/

Likewise, Corey Lucious, one of their stars, gets caught driving recklessly, he's underage yet was driving drunk, and the same prosecutor drops all the alcohol charges and allows Lucious to plead to a far reduced charge of just reckless driving, and then puts off sentencing until the end of the year!
