Guess Who?

Here are some comments taken right off various message boards in the Missouri Valley. They are criticisms that fans have heaped upon their own players, coaches, or fans...
Seriously...these are the hometown FANS ripping into their OWN players, sometimes even their own star players, their own coaches, and their own fan base!
...but you try to guess which player, coaches, or fans these guys are talking about.
I think you will be surprised. The answers will be at the end of this blog entry.

1- "selfish...has his head up his ***....hurts the team being in there....won't pass to the open man.."

2- "As the season began I worried about not having **** next year. I'm beginning to think we won't miss him as much as I thought."

3- "**** is a me-first player...2 people on him, (other players open)...does he pass...NO he tries to be a hotdog ..he belongs on the bench"

4- "I didn't think it was possible to find a worse D1 coach...I feel sorry for the players. (Hiring) **** was a gigantic mistake...the offense is inept, but there is no defense..What a nightmare."

5- "(the student section) they were making hardly any noise. What gives? They weren't very loud ..."

6- "Is (anyone)slower than ****? I'm not sure I've seen many slower than **** at getting up and down the floor."

7- "the **** fans (are) ..a bunch of whiny butt cry-babies"

8- "(Coach ****)'s team is never prepared. They cant play D. They look lost. Cant win on the road. The way (our team) has fallen, so hard and fast, over the last 3 years is just hard to watch. He does nothing to get the team ready to play and then blames them entirely for every loss....He is an abrasive who alienates players and their families"

Check below and see just who it is they were ripping with those comment...

We are only one game into the Missouri Valley season, but I noticed something....and it was something kind of good!!
A few Bradley fans thought there were a couple BAD charging calls made in Bradley's game at Drake....but overall...
I noticed that not one fan on any of the Valley message boards made much about the referees calling way too many fouls. Maybe a few missed ones either way....as I thought Drake got away with a LOT of moving high screens set to free up 3-point shooters, but nobody seems to be upset with the refs whistling too many fouls.

This particular complaint has been commonplace inside the Valley for decades....that the refs who do Valley games simply whistle everything and it ruins games.
Even the journalists who cover the Valley games have commented on it... I have seen columns from several Valley cities remarking on the escessive ticky-tack calls in Valley games.
Even Kirk Wessler had a piece titled "Tweet" about the refs' tendencies after a particularly foul-filled BU game.

But....here are the facts after each Valley team has played a single conference game...
Each team in the Valley has been called for an average of 15.7 fouls in their game..
.....15.7!!

That's not a whole lot at all....so are the refs doing Valley games bringing defective whistles, or what???...I hope this tendency continues.

Just for comparison, here are the current SEASON average fouls per game for the ten Valley teams:

Bradley - 17.2 fouls per game
Creighton - 19.3 fouls per game
Drake - 16.1 fouls per game
Evansville - 22.3 fouls per game (whoa!!)
Illinois State - 16.5 fouls per game
Indiana State - 17.7 fouls per game
Missouri State - 19.2 fouls per game
Northern Iowa - 16.3 fouls per game
Southern Ill. - 21.7 fouls per game
Wichita State - 19.7 fouls per game

So every one of the ten Valley teams is averaging more, and in most cases WAY MORE fouls per game leading up to the first Valley contest, as they had called on them and called agasint them Tuesday in the Valley openers for each team.
Yup - I sure hope this trend continues!

Yea.....for ex-Valley coach Steve Alford...he is speaking up on behalf of non-BCS teams...
"Alford doesn’t like NCAA treatment of non-BCS schools"

“It’s not right,” Alford said. “There’s definitely something wrong with the set up. All you’ve got to look at is every year, teams from the Atlantic 10, the Mountain West Conference or Missouri Valley Conference continually, year in and year, get major wins against BCS leagues, and yet, in the end, it always seems like, ‘Well, they lost in the conference tournament,’ or it’s some different kind of excuse.
“For whatever reason, at-large bids have had a heavy balance to the BCS leagues, and that’s very unfortunate.”

Here's a column praising Drake's Ryan Wedel...he has had some good games thus far in the Valley and is averaging 12.2 ppg, 2.0 apg, and 42% from 3-pt range..
http://www.kansas.com/sports/shockers/story/1119185.html

But note that BU did a little bit of a number on Wedel....
...here are some comparative stats from last Tuesday's BU-Drake game...

Ryan Wedel - 3-12, 8 pts, 1 assist (only 2-7 from 3pt)
Sam Maniscalco - 4-11, 14 pts, 5 assists
Andrew Warren - 8-12, 24 pts, 1 assist
---looks like the BU guards got the best of the Drake guards!!

Best wishes to Indiana State's Jake Kelly - sidelined with a bad knee injury and out for the season. Kelly is disappointed and will have surgery early this coming week.

Here's an article about ISU's game at Missouri State - it'll be a tough one!
Both teams have gaudy records (Missouri State is 11-1, ISU is 10-2), but their Strength of Schedules have been pretty paltry...
Missouri State's is 215, ISU's is 280.
Bradley's SOS is the best in the Missouri Valley at 50.

Missouri State's Michael Porter is out for at least two more games with hamstring injury and won't be available vs. ISU.

Did anyone know this....
Dana Altman's son, Jordan Altman, is an assistant coach at Indiana State?
He will be coaching against his dad today as Creighton visits Indiana State.

Here are the answers to the quotes above....here's who those fans were talking about:

1-P'Allen Stinnett, there have been numerous recent hostile threads about him (9.5ppg, 4rpg - way below last year's avgs)
2-Osiris Eldridge - wow, closing in on best career scorer and they rip him
3-Lloyd Phillips - they probably wouldn't win without him, but they still rip him
4-Drake head coach Mark Phelps, Drake fans have had enough, they want to fire him now
5-The Illinois State student section, they don't even like themselves
6-Carlton Fay - wow, is there anyone on their team they do like?
7-The Saluki fans - yup, they even hate themselves
8-SIU head coach Chris Lowery - highest paid in the Valley but they rip him a ton. Heck, even the Creighton fans occasionally rip Dana Altman, I should have included a few of those rips...but it goes to show virtually no player, no coach, and no team or fan base is immune to really stupid attacks from uninformed fans!
